Toward Team GB Under 23: Charlie’s Remarkable Journey in Wheelchair Basketball

We are delighted to share some truly heart‑warming news about Charlie, whose passion for wheelchair basketball has transformed his life in remarkable ways.

What started as a new sport has quickly become a source of confidence, purpose, and joy for him. Wheelchair basketball has helped Charlie grow not only as an athlete but also as a young person bringing out a renewed interest in school, a stronger sense of independence, and a level of confidence that shines through every day.

Supporting Charlie’s journey takes his family far and wide, with regular travel from Perthshire to England for training and competitions in cities like Sheffield, Wakefield, and Nottingham. Many of these trips require overnight stays, and the annual training camp is expensive.

The grant has lifted a weight from his family’s shoulders, easing the financial pressure of fuel costs, travel, and accommodation. It has ensured that Charlie can continue attending games, training camps, and high‑level opportunities that are vital to his progress.

And that progress has been extraordinary.

Charlie is now on an international pathway, with GB U23 trials scheduled for December in Nottingham. A testament to his hard work, determination, and remarkable development as an athlete.

Here at Trefoil we couldn’t be more proud of everything he has achieved so far, and we can’t wait to see where his journey takes him next!
