A Weekend of Activities in Lochgoilhead

East Kilbride Youth Disability Sports Club was awarded a £2,500 organisational grant in April 2023 to fund a weekend of activities for the club’s members.

EKYDSC encourages personal development under supervised conditions; promotes life skills, health and wellbeing by providing opportunities to take part in outdoor physical activities; and provides an exciting break away from the Club’s usual weekly indoor events.

EKYDSC organised, planned and managed a residential activity weekend outing to the Scout Adventures centre at Lochgoilhead. Activities included canoeing, archery and rambling, all carried out under the guidance of qualified staff.

In total, 35 children and young people participated in the event, alongside parents and carers. The event took place in August 2023 and was a great success.

The participants enthusiastically took part in all of the activities. Activities offered welcome relief from anxiety and isolation, which had been made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result of the weekend, more of the EKYDSC members are now taking part in sports. Some participants secured employment and further educational opportunities as well.

This project was also supported by the Scottish Government’s Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, administered by Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire.
