In June 2021 Trefoil awarded Alex a grant of £500 from the Lilias Finlay Holiday Fund. Alex has a diagnosis of Autism, sensory modulation disorder, complex communication, and severe speech impairment. Accordingly, Alex requires constant supervision, specialist care and in turn a specialist holiday provider.
Calvert Trust is such a provider, as they create bespoke activity holidays for people with additional needs. The benefit of a Calvert Trust holiday for Alex was highlighted by Alex’s referees, Amma and Caroline, who have been a great source of support not just for Alex but for his family. They both stated how the outdoor activities on offer would provide Alex with a stimulus, enabling him to participate calmly and fully in the activities.
Indeed, they were right, as Alex was able to access activities, such as abseiling, which he had never previously experienced. Additionally, not only did the holiday itself improved Alex’s self-esteem and general wellbeing, it also gave him a rare opportunity to bond with his Dad over fun outdoor activities. Trefoil are delighted to have had the opportunity to support Alex on his family holiday packed full of fun.
