MISSION
Trefoil works to enhance the quality of life of Children and Young People in need of Care Support and Development
Introduction To Trefoil
Trefoil was established originally in 1939 in response to the outbreak of World War 2. During its 70 years existence it has touched the lives of innumerable Children and Young People both formally and informally around the world. From humble beginnings in St Abbs Head to its current status as a well connected and networked Charity Trefoil has consistently supported Children and Young People in a variety of innovative ways.
The Trefoil hallmark has always been to challenge the accepted view, to look for new ways to support Children and Young People and to learn by listening. Even our definition of our client group has changed and evolved to encompass a much wider population. The principle adopted in 1939 still holds true today; that is the recognition that every Child and Young person has potential; that every Child and Young Person has a right to an education and the opportunity to exploit their capabilities to the full; Children and Young People should not be defined by their constraints rather their abilities should be their defining feature; the overriding principle is that we should seek to maximise the independence of each Child and Young Person who is supported by Trefoil.
I am David McArthur, Chief Executive of Trefoil and I am privileged to be part of the Trefoil journey into the new millennium.
