HOLIDAY GRANTS
OVERVIEW
This fund provides enabling grants for young
people under the age 18 years with special needs or disability
to take a holiday where a need exists that cannot be provided
for by statutory provision, that is: by law, through the
National Health Service, or by local authorities.
Scope of
the Holiday Grant
-
Trefoil House aims to provide grants without
discrimination to any permanent resident of the United
Kingdom without regard for gender, ethnic or cultural
origin, colour, or sexual orientation, where it can be
demonstrated that the applicant fully meets the Fund
Criteria.
-
Grants are limited to £500 per applicant
within a 12 month period. More than one application is
permitted within the period but the total granted will not
exceed £500.
-
The funds normally available for holiday
grants will be 10% of the total allocated funds
available to the charity in any calendar year.
-
The decision to allocate funding is solely at
our discretion and final. We reserve the right to refuse an
application.
Grant Fund
Criteria
Applications must satisfy the following criteria
before the application can be considered.
-
Applications will be completed on a Trefoil
House Holiday Grant Fund application form.
-
Separate applications are required for each
benefiting applicant - group or family applications will be
rejected.
-
Applications may be made on behalf of the
applicant by family members, persons acting with power of
attorney, carers or support workers where the applicant is
unable to do so.
-
Applications made by persons acting as
brokers will be rejected.
-
The applicant's condition or disability must
be fully stated.
-
Details of applicant's special needs or
support that affect the planned holiday, with their
estimated cost, must accompany the application.
-
The applicant, or persons acting on their
behalf, must provide copies of booking forms and invoices
from holiday providers. These documents must show financial
commitment to take the holiday and be made available before
the holiday is taken. These documents must
be enclosed with the application form.
-
The total cost of the proposed holiday must
be shown.
-
Sources of funding from other organisations
for the holiday must be declared. We reserve the right to
request this information before the issue of any grant.
Grants will be withheld where doubts exist that the total
cost of the holiday can be met.
-
Successful grants will normally be issued by
cheque in the applicant's name. If the applicant does not
hold a bank account then the grant may be paid to persons
entrusted with their financial affairs. In such cases a
signed statement accepting funds by this person will be
sought.
-
Grants will not be issued retrospective to
the taking of the holiday. Applications must be made in
advance, not less than 10 weeks, giving time for the
Committee to accumulate supporting evidence and reach its
decision.
-
Each application requires references from two
independent and professionally qualified persons, with
direct knowledge of the applicant, and familiar with their
condition, disability or special needs. The term
`professional' shall mean medical, nursing, social work,
teaching, legal professions, or a minister of a faith.
One of the referees must be medically qualified. The
Committee reserves the right to refuse a reference and seek
an alternative from the applicant.
-
Responsibility for the timely return of the
references resides with the applicant or persons acting on
their behalf.
-
As part of our auditing procedures we may
request a copy of the final holiday payment invoices from
applicants that have received a grant from the
Committee.
