The main content of this site consists of articles and replies to these articles.
This site has tree-structured discussion threads for each article, allowing you to reply to the main topic (using the reply box at the foot of the page), or to reply specifically to another reply.
This page describes how to browse these discussion threads, how to create a new article or topic, and how to post a reply or comment.

Browsing these discussions may take a bit of getting used to if you have not used a tree-structured forum before. Many such forums list all replies, including all sub-branches, on the one page, usually offering several display options for this - we have chosen a simpler and fixed approach: the idea is that you can read a thread without getting distracted by the side-issues that branch off from it.
The main places to start browsing are:
1) the friends of trefoil page, which lists public articles in the order of latest reply.
2) the what's new listing from the friends of trefoil page, which gives the latest articles and replies, including private ones.
3) the articles listing, from the friends of trefoil page, which lists public articles in the order they were posted.
4) any group pages you have access to, such as members area, and their listings

- click on post headings to see replies / comments to these posts
- use the arrows in the side panel allow you to navigate directly through the tree structures
- use the links on the page headings to navigate up the branch from where you are
new articles and topics
You can create a new article (or topic for discussion, which in this system is the same thing), by using the "new article" facility on the relevant page: friends of trefoil for a public article, members area or other group page for a "private" article that will be visible to that group only.
Enter a title for your article or topic, and click on the "create" button. This will create an empty draft article - you can now type in your text and save it. When the text is saved, a "post" button appears on the sidepanel - click on this, the article will become visible to others.

posting replies
Reply to a topic by entering text in the reply box at the foot of the page, and hitting the 'post' button
OR: reply specifically to another reply, by using the reply link to the right of a post's heading. This will move you onto a 'branch' from the page you were on, from where you can reply to the branch topic.
